I find myself entering my closet these days and staring at all my pretty, summery dresses and skirts and yearning to bring them out and wear them. I am not one who usually sticks to seasonal dressing. I like to throw on summer pieces with my winter pieces to bring them into the season but for some reason I haven't been able to bring myself to wear those dresses lately. Yesterday I changed that. I woke up and told myself that I would put on a summer dress and style it seasonally. I think that sometimes I need to push myself to use pieces in my wardrobe. I find an outfit that I love and wear it more than I would like to admit. I really want to start trying to wear all the pieces of my (significant) wardrobe.

The calendar says its January, but around here it feels like Spring. WE have had no snow since November!!!! It is one of the driest winters I have ever experienced. It is pretty nice all day long. I almost feel warm wearing these tights and a sweater. Such strange weather.

I am working on a borrowed camera these days. My posts will be all over the place as I try to work on getting my camera fixed.

Even though I took several pictures today, many ended up with me in strange poses. Sometimes I think I lose track of what I am doing and get distracted by something around me. This is why U need someone I take my pictures. Then I may be more focused.

Does anyone else end up with lots of strange pictures or unusable pictures when they are doing photos?

2011 is official over and what a crazy year it has been! I had such a wonderful year I thought I would do a quick Year in Review where I post a photo from each month. Also, I currently have a broken camera, so I will try to get it fixed soon and be back to posting for 2012!

Late Autumn in the California foothills

Last weekend I took a little trip with my parents iover the mountains and into the California foothills for some wine tasting. IT is so beautiful over there right now. The vines are starting to lose their leaves but many are still left and they just sparkle in the California sunshine. I was behind the camera for most of the weekend, so I can't say I have pictures of my outfits, but I just wanted to share some of my scenic pictures with everyone.

Yesterday was just lovely. I had the day off (yea!) and the weather was beautiful and on top of it all, I got to meet Temple Grandin! Yes, THE Temple Grandin. She gave a lecture out the University and of course I went to go listen. She is inspiring and funny.

This morning was frantic! I missed my alarm, dressed quickly, and then realized I still had 15 minutes before I had to leave for school. What? Well, I quickly snapped a few photos before grabbing breakfast and running out the door. When I went to edit my photos this evening, my eyes were closed or they were blurry. Almost every single one was unusable. It looked like the camera was as tired as I was. At the very end, there was one photo. One photowhere I didn't look asleep and that wasn't blurry! I am very excited right now about this because all it takes is one good photo! Hopefully the next time I am taking outfit photos I am a little more perky.

A feel a chang a comin'

It snowed! Okay, okay, it didn't snow down here in the valley; all we got was rain. But it did snow in the mountains. They first real snow of the season has already come and with it comes increadingly chilly weather for a few days. It is actually very nice. I get to bring out so many pieces of my fall wardrobe. I love the fall color pallette and being able to layer.

My goal for fall and winter is to incorporate more pairs of pants into my wardrobe. I wear skirts and dresses pretty often with tights but sometimes I really do just want to cover my legs with some great trousers. I really love the wide leg on these pants and that they come in long! Thank goodness for New York and Co. having size long. Personally I always try to buy my pants in size long for fear of appearing to be wearing high waters (Don't tease, this happens pretty often when you are tall). If the pants don't come in long, I make sure that there is plenty of hem that can be let out on the pant leg. This makes finding pants a bit easier.

Does anyone else have crazy problems when trying on clothes? Well who doesn't really?

All I Wanna Do!

About 10 year ago (circa 2001?) my sister and I discovered this movie at Blockbuster (remember when you went out to rent DVD or heck, even VHS?) We watched it twice that weekend and many, many times since then. It is still one of our favorites. Featureing Kerstin Dunst and Rachel Leigh Cook this movie is a great one to watch this weekend!

Have you ever had those best girl friends that you tell everything to? THis movie is all about that! These ladies are being educated in an all girls school. They share everything with each other and each hads their own dreams of what they will become someday. All of this is threatened when the school is going to be changed to be co-ed.

This movie is fun and funny. Watch it with your best girl friends!

Preparing for Fall

Hey folks, I am back! This weekend was just lovely. It was in the low 70s and there was a cool breeze in the air. Not quiet fall like but a bit of a preview for what is to come. I took full advantage of teh beautiful weather to pull out my pumpkin colored, long sleeved shirt! I love this shade for fall. Now if it would only get here a bit faster because today it was almost 90 degrees outside. Oh, well. I will drink my pumpkin lattes and wear fall pieces until the weather decided to catch on!

A tragic day

I have received a lot of emails, calls and text from friends and family this evening and I just want all those of you who read my blog (hi, cousin!) to know that myself and my family are just fine. I normally wouldn't post this on my blog but it is a fast way for friends and family to know that everything is alright.

In light of today’s tragedy in my hometown and current place of residents I want to say that my heart goes out to the victims and the families and I hope that all of those who are still in the hospital will pull through. If you are reading the news, dear family and friend, this will give the most current information that you need.

To all other readers of this blog, please do not post political comments here and I want you to know that our small town is in mourning so I will update as soon as possible. Peace be with you all.

The bad thing about taking pictures in the early morning: the light. It is difficult because I only have myself, my camera and a tripod and very, very bright sunny mornings around here. Guess what time of year it is everybody? Yes that time when students everywhere get excited and teachers start crying. It is Back to School time! While I prepare to start my student teaching with the kiddos on Monday, this past week I have been attending meetings at school. This means a little more casual dress and lots of sweaters. The libraray is freezing! WHile next week will start a much more professional wardrobe, this last week was a little more relaxed. I wore my summer dress because I am just not ready to give up the summer yet.

Summer time

In the summer it always seems so much easier for me to get dressed. I throw on a lightweight dress, a cute pair of sandles and walk out the door. Done, it is as easy as that. However, I also find myself getting lazy. I get dresssed quickly and don't worry about what I am wearing because let's dace it, it is just too hot to care sometimes. This last week has been one of those weeks. I just didn't really seem to care too much. Mind you I always looked cute when I went out, but I didn't put much thought into what I was wearing. Today I decided to stop that. I wanted to add more accessories, to stop using only dresses and put together seperates, which for me, require more thought.

I'm Back

I am back from camping and I must say that it is HOT. Okay, maybe 93 is not that hot compared to some places in the country that are swealtering, but it was about 80 degrees in Tahoe while I was camping. The weather was amazing. I came back today and decided that it was just too hot to wear a lot of clothing.

A quick post today before I am off to go camping for the weekend. This is actually what I wore yesterday instead of my dress I posted before. It finally feels like one of those slow, summer days where it is hot outside and everything seems to be moving slower. What a perfect day for an easy summer dress.

The strangest dress in the world

I took a little trip to my local Goodwill recently to see what I could find. It turned out to be one of those days in which I wasn't finding much. Towards the end of my adventure I found a dress. It was dark, really more of a winter dress than a summer, and on further inspection, I found out it was homeade. It was about $4, so I went ahead and got it without trying it on. While I don't regret this decision, I really can't beleive how interesting this dress is. It is below the knee, has an interesting pattern, has a built in belt that can wrap around me at least twice and has some very interesting sleeves.

I am back from Vegas and back to celbrating my best. Today I am celebrating...my Waist! Why? Becuase it is small, easily accentuated and makes my curves stand out. I love wearing belts around my waist because it makes it seem tiny and shows off my shapes. I think this is one of the things that I love to show off the most now. When I was younger I never liked my waist and curves. I thought I was so big and I was so shy that I never wanted anyone to look at me. Things have changed over the years and noe I love showing off my wiast!

One thing that I love about this blog is that I have learned how to dress my shape and appreciate it for its flaws and imperfections. I feel like that is a huge thing for me. I would never have wanted to define my shape years ago. Now I don't think I could leave the house without it. I like watching myself gorw through these posts on my blog. It is really a wonderful accomplishment for me!

What am I celebrating today? Well, my hair is back, I have on a necklace that draws attention to my face, and I am wearing my glasses! Yes, today I am celebrating my eyes. They are big, brown and expressive. The eyes are usually the first thing I noticed about people and I am sure I am not the only one.

I don't usually wear my glasses on this here blog. Actually, I don't often wear them in life either. I wear contacts. Why you may ask? Well I always had a problem with looking like the nerd in school. My glasses pointed seemed to point that out. So when I went to college, I started wearing my contacts all the time. With contacts I could wear sunglasses and show of my makeup and all of that. But, since this is a blog about celebrating ourselves, I must say that I am reconsidering my glasses. I mean, I did pick them and they do look nice on me. Today, instead of wearing my contacts and celebrationg my eyes, I am wearing my glasses to celebrate my eyes and the fact that they are not perfect. I love them anyways!

I did it last year and had a great time trying out looks to show off those features of myself that I like and even those that sometimes give me grief. First up in my list of five features are my arms. While they may not always be the strongest and most toned, I love that they are always shapely and there for anyone who needs a hug. I use my arms to write long math problems on the board for my kiddos, to lift groceries out of the car for my mom and to give my cat a big hug. My arms are always a great part of me in any shape.

These last few weeks have been spent dealing with family and house guests, watching my little sister graduate college (go sister!) and working, a lot. I also did spring cleaning and donated a bunch of clothing items to the National MS Society.

The weather is also finally starting to cooperate. I think summer may be just about here and it is about time. Since I cleaned out my wardrobe this week, I also moved all of my winter clothes (except a few items that may be useful) to the side of my closet not currently in use. This has left a gaping hole to be filled with a summer wardrobe. Here are some of the things that I want to survive during my summer time!
1. A go to summer dress. You know that dress that you always put on when you can't think of something to wear?
2. Light and airy tops and tanks. A summer must have.
3. A cute and colorful pair of sunglasses.
4. A big, floppy hat to shade myself from all that time spent in the sun.
5. Strappy sandles I can wear all summer long.
6. Skirts. Lots of shapes, lots of colors, lots of lengths.

Spring and Summer out here mean wind. While this is really nice on a 100+ degree day, it is not so nice on a 75 degree day. Oh, well.

I love this polka dot dress. I got it at Target for a steal. I love that it can be layered for cooler weather and is a perfect dress for the summer sun. It has a sort of vintage feel with a sweatheart neckline and some boning in the top. I really love that even fast fashion is embracing some of the vintage style.

This outfit was from Saturday and it was amazingly beautiful outside. Today, it is about to snow as I write this. We have crazy weather around here. I hope that wherever you are readers it is warm and sunny!

Lazy Day Elegance

I always feel like like I don't want to get dressed on my days off. I want to sit in my pajamas all day because they are so very confy. But when I finally do convince myself to get dressed, I almost always like what I see. Casual days are always a blast because if something may not work when I go to school or work, it definitely works on casual days. Take this outfit, not work oppropriate and I might get strange looks on campus if I show up in this (at least from my sister) but on casual day, it works!

Spring is finally in the air

Hello lovely readers. It seems to finally be turning to spring around here. The weather has been just beautiful the past few days and I can't help but want to spend all my time outside enjoying it. I hope the weather continues to be this lovely for a while.

I decided, since it was so warm, to show a little leg. Me legs have been hidden in tights and pants for months, so it felt lovely to be free again. As for the shoes, my much loved Cynthia Vincent sandles from Target are making a spring appearance. I litterally had to dust them off because they have been at the back of my closet since the winter months started. I am happy to have them out again!

I wore this outfit to go to dinner with a friend. I really love the simply look of a shirt and a shirt without tights and without a lot of other accessories. It really lets the pieces do all the work.

I am just so giddy! A week ago it was a blizzard outside and now it is too beautiful.

Can you believe it is almost April? Well I for one, cannot believe it.

If you read my funny post a few weeks ago you will noticed that this outfit is pictured there. Yes, these photos are not that recent but I never had the chance to post them, so here they are.

I love wearing shorts with tights and this is a very casual look for a less than busy day. I like dressing down when I am not going to be out and about a lot. I feel like I do not always need to make a big show if I am just going to be at home studying. However, I do like to still look put together. This outfit is just the ticket!

The Wanderlust List: Oahu Hawaii

This long overdue post is finally here. I am showing you all a selection (because there are over 100) of my pictures from Hawaii with some little stories of what I did. I had an amazing time. I stayed with my best friend's parents, so I can't really recommend places to stay, but I am sure if you are planning a trip you could find plenty of online reviews for hotels.

This is what Waikiki and Honolulu looks like. A beautiful area with all the tall buildings and hotels that you could imagine. I loved walking around here, lots of stores, lots of things to see and plenty of things to do.

One great thing to do on Oahu is to climb Diamond Head State Monument. It is a pretty good hike but the trail is well maintained and there are lots of stairs to climb up. Now you might be wondering why someone would choose to go on this hike for a vacation, but the views from the top are amazing!

What better way to cool off after a hike then take a little trip to the beach. This is my best friend Christy on Sandy Beach, east of Honolulu. Not the best place to swim though, as the waves tend to crash vioently against the shore.

The next day, we got up early to go on another hike, this one through the jungle on the Kaunala Trail. This trail is not really maintained, full of roots, full of mud, and have lots of ups and downs. It was far longer than we were expecting and a bit tougher as well. My advice, check all trails in trail books and online before throughing yourself into it. The good news, it was just beautiful in the jungle.

The view from the top of the trail was just beautiful! It really is amazing how big this island is, and it is not even The Big Island.

After our hike, we went to Hailewa Town, a great little town on the North Shore. If you want a great little plae to visit, go to Hailewa. I wish I had more pictures from there. We had lunch at Pizza Bob's on their outdoor patio. It was the best meal the entire trip. I give a huge recommendation to all you readers to go to Hailewa and Pizza Bob's.
Now as far as the picture above, this was taken after lunch at the Dole Pinapple Plantation. It was a neat place and the pineapple was great (why wouldn't it be). I discovered my new love for fresh pineapple here.

Day 3 in the morning we went to the beach. We spent an hour at Ala Moana Beach park. It is the place that locals go and it is a really great beach. Calm waters near the shore, bigger waves out further so that you can swim or surf. Personally, I am no surfer, so I just swam.

After our morning beach adventure, we drove north. This is a picture (taken out of the car) of the drive on the north shore. The drive was just beautiful and the water was so blue and green and clear.

Next, we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. We watched people climb trees, dance with fire and dance. It was a great exploration of Polynesian culture and life. Very much a living museum and also a learning center. Lots of tourists come here and I would recommend it for everyone.

Day 4 started out at Pearl Harbor. I love history and this was such a great place. I loved learning all about WWII and Hawaii's role. Plus, I had to see the Arizona memorial.

This last picture is one of my favorites. It was taken on my last day in the Chinatown market in Honolulu. It was a fabulous place with so much to see. A great place for some deals as well.

I don't have any new outfits to show you today as I am still in my pajamas and focusing on packing for Hawaii. I send all of my wishes to those in Japan who are experience such a scary horrible thing. So far, Hawaii seems to be fine and not hard hit at all, which is good for me.

Now we move onto some funny! We could all use a dose of that right about now. I have been saving these blooper pictures for the past few months, so here they are, in my Funny Pictures #2.

It's raining, it's pouring...

This is how i looked when I left in the morning. By the end of the afternoon I was covered in white corn starch. Why you ask? It was part of a fifth grade science lesson I helped teach. Sometimes we need to look nice for jobs, but some outfits are so not practical. This was the case today. I think that we need to sometimes forgo vanity (because who doesn't like to look pretty) for the sake of wearing something more practical. Another example, if you are having a picnic in th grass your probably shouldn't wear heels. I need to remember that one.

I am frantically doing homework, studying and packing. I leave for Hawaii on Saturday!

Winterize a summer dress 3

Hopefully I won't need to do many more of these winterize posts. Hopefully spring is right around the corner and soon I will be able to go out without tights on, but that still may ne a few weeks off.

Dress: H&M, Top: express, Tights: HUE, boots: Target

For this look I took a dark colored button down shirt and wore it over my summer dress. I added grey tights instead of black for a lighter look and black boots, mostly because my feet were cold and there was snow on the ground. One of the keys to bringing a summer look into winter is to not make it look too heavy and to play with fabrics. These dress is light and airy and my tights are rather thick. This way I stay warm and summery the whole time.

It seems like it has been a while.

I kept meaning to update my blog, but I just become buried in work. It is that lovely time of year again, oh, yes, time for midterms. Too many papers in too little time. Ahhhh

I really like the way this outfit turned out. These red tights with the blue shirt add color and the skirt adds sparkle. This look was very comfy and perfect for busy days.

As the days get longer (yay!) I am wishing for spring. Our snow is finally starting to melt around here and some flowers are breaking through the soil. I can almost feel the earth coming back to life.

I will try to put in a few more updates in the next week. I have some saved files and stored that need to be shown. Well, TGIF and have a good weekend.

Snow and Stripes

Not much of a fashion post today. It has been snowing on and off since last Thursday and it seems to not want to stop. As soon as it melts, more comes to create a snowscape. While I usually don't mind the snow, I have been bothered by its constant presense in the last week. Oh, well. I am sure spring is around the corner, right? Right?

Summer Dress Winterized #2

Once again I am taking one of my favorite summer dresses and making it winter appropriate so I don't freeze to death. I like that the grey in this outfit makes the red, white and blue less bold then if I were to play it up. Playing the colors down with grey mutes the summerness of the dress while still creating acute look.

Valentine's Day

Yes, ladies and gents, it is that special day where we celebrate the ones we love. I happen to love Valentine's Day and I send my family cards and candies for the day. I am don't expect anything in return either. I baked some cookies and enjoyed the day.

When puting together my outfit for the day I realized that I own a LOT of red clothing but I can't say that I own much white or anything that is pink. This dress is the closest thing to pink that I have. There are just some colors that I stay away from when I buy clothes. With pink it is because I can never find the right shade. With white, well, I am prone to being messy and so white clothing may not stay white for long. Are there any colors that you guys tend to stay away from?

Did anyone do anything special for their Valentine's Day?

If you were wondering who my Valentine was this year, well, it was a whole class of fourth graders! As a sub I am in many classrooms and today it was the fourth grade. Even though I am not these kids main teacher I still got some Valentines! How sweet.

Red and Shorts

Friday I finally had a full day off and what did I do? I stayed at home all day and worked on homework. In doing this I required an outfit that was comfy and unfussy. Something that worked well for spending a day researching articles, reading textbooks and typing papers. What better look is there than shorts with tights?

These pictures have a lot of red in them from my outfit. I didn't know just how much red was actually in this outfit until I saw these pictures. Well, I guess I am preparing for Valentines Day.

I love shorts with tights. I can't say that I have worn them very often but the combination is both warm and comfy. I think I will have to try something like this again soon. There are many looks that can be created with shorts and different color tights. Any ideas? Have you done this look recently? This outfit is what I wore on Friday. The light is not the best since I am up early but at least I managed to snap a few photos. I am rather found of bringing color into a winter wardrobe. I think that a summer dress can look great paired with the right accessories. This is my attempt to bring some summer into winter.

This dress is a great one for summer here are some times I have worn it in the past. Here in June and also here in August!

The Super Bowl starts in just a few hours. WHo are your cheering on? Myself, I can't say that I have any favorites.

Purple Skirt

While the rest of the country is buried in snow, we out here in the west are just facing cold tempuratures. While there is no snow on the ground, it was only 20 degrees when I took this pictures. Thank goodness for sweater tights! This pair is rather warm and I enjoy the fact that I can wear a skirt without freezing my behind off.

I am not a huge fan of this picture (what am I staring at?) but I thought I would post it anyway. It kind of makes me giggle.

This skirt is a Christmas gift. I have only worn it one other time and I don't have any pictures (boo) but I really love the color it is and the way it fits. Expect to see this skirt again.

When looking back at my January posts I realized that there weren't very many. That is what happens when you get really sick and then have to go back to school. Well, this month I am going to try to post more often and well, not get sick. Happy February everyone!

Napa Valley!

So I was going to post an outfit today, but when I looked at the pictures from yesturday, they were horrible! They were all blurry and the light was so off. They were really bad so I can't exactly post them. Instead I will post some pictures from my weekend in Napa, California. I went out there with my family for my dad's birthday. It is actually only about 4 hours away. It was such a nice weekend. It was 70 degrees and sunny. Just perfect!

This picture was taken at V. Sattui Winery. The grounds around this winery are so beautiful. People were enjoying picnics and the sun outside in the grass. It is a great place with great wines.

There is actually green grass coming up in Napa. It is still frozen where I live.

Pattern Play

I love mixing patterns and getting unexpected results. I think that pattern mixing can be hit or miss sometimes. I love mixing stripes with a pattern. This type of mixing always seems to give me good results in my outfits. It may not be the boldest way to mix patterns, but it is a way that is effective and fun at the same time. This outfit is one of my favorites that I have worn in a long time. Patterns make me happy!

I am FINALLY feeling better these days. I had the flu, which then turned into Bronchitis and I was so sick for two weeks. But I can actually feel myself getting better now that I am on antibiotics. Yay!

In other news, school started back up for another exciting semester. I am just sick of school right now. I wish I could take a brake. Oh, well, summer is sooner than I realize. It has to be, right?

Did I mention how much I love these shoes? These were a gift that I got for Christmas. They are big, platform, and so much fun.

Fashion From Literature: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I have been sick at home with the flu for the past week or so now. I feel horrbile and frankly have not gotten out of sweat pants of pajamas for a while. What I have been able to do, however, is read. One book on that reading list is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Although very slow to start, the novel picks up in the middle. I am fascinated by the main character, Lisbeth. She is a kick butt kind of girl. I created a list here from Polyvore of my fashion inspiration from this book.

Snow in 2011

This is not my favorite outfit, but I feel I should post it for blogger authenticity. Yes, I, like everyone else, have outfit days were something just doesn’t work. The outfit is not outlandishly horrible, but to me, there is just something off. I can’t put my finger on it. Should I be wearing heels to appear taller? Should I have worn a different cardigan with less bulk around the hips? I just can’t put my finger on the problem.

In other news, it snowed! New Years Day it snowed close to 5 inches and as of today (the 3^rd) it has yet to melt do to frigid, barely above freezing temperatures. I am hoping that it will all melt soon. Hell, I am hoping that spring comes really early this year.

The Best of 2010 July~ December

Continuing from yesterday, today I will be posting my favorite outfits from the second half of the year, July-December.

July- This outfit feels so summer to me. I love the shoes, the flower top, the hair. It screams summer. This outfit is ideal for those hot days in July.

August- This was my favorite photo shoot of the year. A little river, a light dress and perfect.

September- This look screams fall. The colors, the tights, the hat. I love working with a fall color pallet and this one really works well.

October- I love the shape of this outfit and the use of this purple dress. This dress is a favorite of mine and filled with many memories.

November- Looking back through November, a lot of my clothes were very dark. This outfit, however, was bright and full of color.

December- I love that this look is not hectic or patterned. It is simple, colorful and chic.

The Best of 2010 January~June

2010 was a great year here at this blog. Since it is almost the end of this year, I thought I would recap some of my best outfits of the year. It was hard to pick a favorite for each month, but I managed to pick an outfit that I liked best through the past year. So here is a look back at the Best of 2010, January-June.

January- There is something oh, so wonderful about a balmy January day. I threw on jeans, shoes amd a shirt, let my hair go crazy and took a picture. I like this picture because it feels so natural to me.

February- This was one of my first experiments with pattern mixing. I love the way that this look turned out. It was the perfect look for a rainy day.

March- I love the colors in this look. They scream spring to me. No blacks, no dark colors, all light and airy along with the spring shoes.

April- This month was tough to decide. I love this outfit because it was one of my favorite dresses and that cardigan is now gone (it got a rip in it). This picture was taken at my grandparents house in Las Vegas during my Spring Break.

May- I love this look. I wore this outfit for Dress Your Best Week 2010. I felt so confident in this look because I was embracing a much loved feature of myself. I can't wait to participate this year.

June- I love this maxi-skirt. This was my first time wearing it and I felt really drawn to bright colors. I love the length and I love the colors that make this outfit complete.

From Warmer days

This outfit picture was taken two or more weeks ago but it has been sitting on my laptop. The internet has been acting funny so I haven't been able to long on a post very often.

This was for a casual day running around and then a dinner with a friend of mine. I didn't even have to wear tights back then. It was 55 degrees. Things have taken a colder direction since this picture.

I really love layering. Some outfits just turn out so well when you layer them while others make you look super bulky. I think I have finally started to figure out how to dress warm without looking like that kid from A Christmas Story who can't move his arms because he is so bundled up. That is a triumph.

Well, we are planning for our big family Christmas party this evening. I will be busy, busy, busy trying to clean and cook and shower and such so I will see if I have time to take pictures. If not, well I have a few saved. Have a lovely day dear readers. Enjoy the holidays.

Happpy Holidays

Sorry I have not been around, dear readers, but there has been a lot going on in my world. First and formost is the massive snowstorm that hit our region. ON Friday we got 9 inches of snow. The next day, it all melted, but it rained all day, leaving us with a flood and a mess in our area. Then it snowed again and it is supposed to rain for the next three days. I live near the river and we have been watching it and making sure we don't need to buy sandbags.

Next, finals for college are official over. I celebrated with my friends. Here is to another semester over.

My family was in town to visit for a few days last week. It was raining then too (can you believe I live in the desert?) and we played board games all day.

Last, and most certainly the worst, news, my dear puppy passed away. She was very old and had cancer and joint problems. She was 15 and had lived a good long life. It has been very hard on our family but we are glad she is not in pain anymore.

I appoligize for bumming anyone out but I knew that an update was necessary. I have a few photos that are in need of posting and hopefully will be able to do that soon. In the meantime, enjoy this holiday season. Oh, and go see this movie...

The SUN! I finally see the sun! I am way excited that today it was a balmy 55 degrees. IT was so nice. The clouds disappeared, the sun came out and the rain stopped.

Happy December, dear readers. I am busy with all of the lovely things that this month brings including finals for school, Christmas shopping, decorating and wrapping. I am trying to stay on top of everything and also remember to breathe. I think that sometimes we all get wrapped up in what we have to do, buy or wrap that we forget to take a few minutes to calm down and destress.

I wore this on Monday to sit in the library and work on a group project. It was a cold day and the library is always cold so I wore this big sweater. It feels like a blanket when you wear it. It is so warm.

I have been absent for a little while because I was sick, then it snowed and we lost power and now we begin the holiday and end of school rush. I love a big, bold pattern. Most of my patterns are something floral but this cardigan is my favorite pattern. Big hearts! I really love this pattern It is unique, interesting and cute. Give me hearts anyday.

These shoes are amazing. They are grey, platform, and rather comfy. I have been on the lookout for just such a pair for a while now. I found these ones at Kohl's.

I wore this outfit on Friday without tights! It was actually rather warm on Friday. All that has since changed. Today, it looks like it could snow any second, and it just might. So much for a nice weekend.

Instead of spending the weekend outside I will be inside, sitting by the fire, listening to Christmas music (yes, the radio has already started playing it) and working on homework. Everyone enjoy your weekend. Hopefully it is filled with less snow than mine.

Fading fall

I have really been atracted to red and black colors lately. I think my mind is starting to realize that fall is dying.

Freezing cold

We had a big storm hit this weekend and although it did not snow, it brought in freezing cold weather and a snow line that keeps getting closer (the mountains have snow, the valley, were I live doesn't...yet).

(Okay, okay, so this is fake snow, but it is seriously this cold. If there was moisture in the air, it would be snowing.)

*Fixing my scarf.

I got these new boots from Target during the Halloween. They are really slouchy but I like the grey color. Grey is one of my favorite colors for clothing and acessories recently. I also bought a pair of grey, peep toes heels as well.

My eyes are closed because I am wishing for warmer weather, maybe Hawaii or Australia.

Alright, I have a super busy week but I won't lie and pretend that there is not a holiday in the middle of it (Veteran's Day). I am going to really try very hard to get at least two more posts up this week. Keep your fingers crossed that my life doesn't get in the way.

Colors

I think the best way to make your color really pop in an outfit is to make the rest of the outfit black. This way the color stands out in a bold way. That is what I decided to do today.

In this look I really wanted to play up one of my favorite colors to wear, red. The all black really helps this red stand out.

This is another one of those simply looks that feels so right. I love that it didn't take much effort and there is nothing really fussy about this outifit. I think lately I have been drawn to a much simpler look.

Well, here is to hoping you all have an excellent weekend. Mine will be spent tutoring kids, celebrating a birthday and completing a lot of homework assignments.

What's the story, morning glory

Each morning when I get up it seems to be getting colder and colder. I would make anyone think that winter was on the way but, alas, by noon it is 75 degrees out! What is that? An Indian Summer some would say, maybe a makeup for the very longer winter we had earlier this year? I can't really say but I am going to attempt to enjoy a this little bit of sunshine.

This is a look that has been seen on my before in warmer weather months but add a few layers and you have a new look for cooler weather.

I think that when the weather is all over the place layers are the perfect way to stay warm and stay cool at the same time. Does anyone have any really great layering looks? Leave a link in my comments. I need inspiration and I am sure that I am not the only one.

Chilly Morning

It was really chilly this morning but by afternoon it is going to be really nice. This sweater was great for the morning and I took it off by afternoon. I have to admit, I am not in love with this outfit. I just feel a bit bulky in this outfit and I also feel like it is too warm with this sweater and not warm enough without it. Do you ever have moments like this, where you are just not feeling your outfit for the day?

My Grandparents came to town this weekend and I can't believe that this weekend is already gone. Poof! Now I have to play catch up on doing all the things that need to be done this week. One of these things being, updating my blog. I did try and promise that this month would be better on updating this thing but my computer is still out of whack. I will try though.

Just a quick few photos of what I wore last week. I really have been wanting to try and wear shorts with tights for a more wintery look. I really like the way it turned out. My legs were warm and that pop of color was a great touch!

An Update

Wow, what a busy week. Turns out my wifi connection on my computer is broken, I had a bad cold, two midterms and freezing cold which all lead to one busy week and no posting. Posting is going to be a bit slow for a while as I still am having internet issues. Right now I am sitting at a library computer working on homework and uploading pictures. What a perfect time to update the blog!

I have some saved up photos here that have been sitting on my computer for a little while and now is the perfect time to share them.

This look is a blatant copy of a look from Selective Potential that she wore a little while back. I loved the lacy tights with the very bright scarf adding great color and texture. I wore this to go to a wine tasting event held by University of alumni. It was very exciting but while wine tasting it is dangerous to be walking in heels. good things these ones are so comfy. They really are my favorite pair. Sorry you guys have to see them all the time.

This shawl/scarf is another one of those great clothing pieces that I bought in Prague, this one at a street vendor. Don't those guys always have some great stuff?

I am going to try to post once more during this library time of mine, but we will see how that goes. If not, enjoy and hopefully I will be able to update again soon.

A dramatic change in the landscape

Although this post has an outfit in it it is not really an outfit post. I drove arounf yesterday looking for fall foliage around my little town. The colors are so beautiful and starting to get really dramatic.

Another Thursday

I will admit that I did wear a sweater to cover the girls when I met with my student's parent today. The rest of the day, however, was mine, which meant no sweater. It was pretty warm today, so a sweater was not necessary.

I love this dress. I bought it at the first H&M I ever went in, which just happened to be in Prague. The color is a rich purple and I love that it is a wrap dress. I love that this dress has such great memories attached to it. Everytime I wear it I remind myself of where I was when I got it!

My dog, Muffin, decided to join my ouside. She is in the back of my pictures.

What a week it has been! I have been super, duper busy. I am in the thick of a crazy round of midterms, I have a big volunteer project at the Elementary school I am usually at this weekend and my internet is on the fritz, still. I am taking this brief libaray time to update my blog.

I really like the way this look turned out. The color work well together and the little bit of red detail from the dress poking threw adds a great focus and pop. I wore this on Tuesday for school and work.

These thrifted oxfords have been getting a lot of wear lately. I love them. They are too comfy. And did you noticed the tree in my background starting to change colors? We are getting close to full blown fall foliage around here!
Well, hopefully I can bury myself in the library tomorrow to do an update or maybe my internet will be nice to me by then. Cross your fingers!

Fashion from Literature: The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Today I am introducing a new segment. It is called Fashion from Literature. In this segment I will take a book character and attempt to create a look for them within my own wardrobe. This is a creative way to keep my imagination going when I look into my closet and have no inspiration.

For my first inspiration I am using Milan Kundera’s book The Unbearable Lightness of Being. The character I chose for today is Sabina, lover of Tomas, a perfect example of one striving for lightness in life, she throws off social “kitsch” and normal ideals. She has no problem with nudity of sexual relations and is very much a carefree spirit.

I see Sabina in very androgynous clothing. She would not feel the need to dress male or female but she might use her body as a way of expressing her sexuality. She is a free woman and wants to do as she pleases. Sabina is also very interested in power in her relationships. In a sense she wants to wear the pants. She would prefer to not be thought of as a sex object but she is also very sexual in nature. She knows who she is and how to work with that. He clothing is masculine with some feminine charm, and of course she would be wearing her famous hat.

Hopefully you like this new series and are indeed inspired by great work in literature as I am. Come back again to see what I book I will be using next time!

Fall Arrives

Yes, ladies and gents, fall has finally arrived in a big and very wet way. It has been raining on and off here since Sunday. I was so excited. I started planning all of these fall outfits and I took a bunch of pictures, unfortuantely the crazy thunder, lightning and rain have cause our internet to go out. I have been without the internet since late Monday. Right now I am sitting in my University library before going to class. So sorry about the lack of posts and hopefully the internet will once again decide to turn on soon.

Autumn Dreaming

The heat wave continues this weekend but all I can think about is a cup of hot cider and a big, comfy sweater. I finally decided to pull out my comfy sweater today and wear it around the house. The AC will be blasting and I will fake a fall like atmosphere inside. Outisde, this sweater and these boots are totally uncalled for.

This sweater is so nice and warm. Perfect for fall or a fabricated fall.

Thursday seems to be my unofficial/offical meet with the parents day. Last week it was unofficial, this week it seems to be more official. I have be dressed up more than usual to meet the parents of the kid that I tutor so I wore this dress to classes today. Normally I wouldn't be this dressed up just to go to college classes but it is Thursday after all.

I abolutely love this dress. I bought it a number of years ago for $100 bucks. It is still the most expensive piece I have ever bought for myself and look, it is still around! I love pieces that last. If I am going to spend my money (especially a lot of it) then I want to buy something that will be around in a few years and not just a few months. Sometimes saving up a bit to buy higher qualitiy pieces is truly worth it.

While taking a break from studying (because it has been non-stop this week) I decided to watch my latest arrival from Netflix, Ondine.

This was such a beautiful story about a fisherman in Ireland (played by Colin Farrell) who is fishing and one day discovers a woman (played by Alicja Bachleda) in his fishing net. The man’s daughter (played by Alison Barry) thinks that she might be a Selkie, a Scottish type mermaid.

The story is a modern day fairy tale that is beautiful portrayed. The scenery and the shots are so perfect with the story and add such depth to it. The main actors do a magnificent job (yes, even Colin Farrell, who blew me away in this performance). It captures the beauty of a small Irish town and is magical and haunting. It is not just a tender story but it is also dark as well. You never know the truth until the end and even then, which truth will you believe in? Definitely a movie to check out soon.

It is supposed to be fall today but instead it is 95 degrees and baking. Now, to me, that is Summer. A quick post before I go back to homework. I love the color green and although this look is much more spring than fall the weather felt much more summer than anything today. It seems that summer want to make a little re-apperance. I am officially calling it, we are gearing up for an Indian Summer kind of fall.

I love the color red. It is like the fall leaves, and one of the most perfect fall colors. I always feel so great when I wear it. I think it is safe to say that red is my power color. This is the look that I wore when i went to dinner on Sunday with the family. My mom took one look at my socks and rolled her eyes. She hates when people wear their socks with heels. I decided I wanted to try out the trend and let me just say, I love it. The socks keep my feet warm and keep them from getting blisters.

I always carry some sort of shawl, scarf or coat for resturants. Some of them are so cold. I was so glad that I had brought this big, red scarf with me.

Here is the necklace I am wearing in the pictures, even if you can't see it. I made this out of pieces of sea glass from Southern Cali and craft wire!

These socks are from Target. Target has this great deal on socks. These, although pretty thin material, were only $1.00. Yeah for deals.

Farmer's Market

Yesterday it was a bit of a chilly morning. You can start to feel the fall chill coming in! This is very exciting but it seems that the summer is official just about over. Another way to tell summer is almost over; the end os the summer's farmer's markets. Our home town market had its last Saturday sales and that means no more summer fruits and veggies, bring on the apples and pears.

I love days where the fall weather is in the air but it is still a bit warm. The clouds are out and the sun is not really shining. Today was one of those marvelous days.

Todays picture were taking on the walking trail that is by my house. I think I scared a few ducks and maybe an old man walking by. I am definately not dressed for walking down a trail.

Bold Red

Today was almost perfect. The high was a mere 68 degrees, it was cloudy and the wind was crazy. A bit too crazy if you ask me. I knew today was the day to wear tights. Okay, so maybe it was still a bit warm to wear tights but I am ready for fall, even if it just comes in small bits here and there.

How great are these red tights? Not only are they bright but they are from one of my favorite brands: HUE. There colors are great and they have some of the best tights. I had a warm black pair that lasted me a while last winter, and I wore them a lot. I wish there was a contest for me to win a years supply of these babies. If you hear of any, sign me up!

The Wanderlust List: Labor Day in Amador

Every Labor Day weekend my family always goes camping with another family in Amador County, California, which is just over the Sierra Nevada mountains from here. For those of you who don’t know, Amador County contains many wonders including many fabulous wineries. I like to call it “special camping” because who else goes camping and then wine tasting? We spent Saturday at some of the wineries in the area. They are so nice and since my family goes every year, we get to talk to the wine makers and owners. Amador County is smaller and less well known then Napa and Sonoma, but I like it that way. It feels more like a favorite local spot. Here are a few of my pictures from this weekend.

This picture was taken at a scenic overlook high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

It is almost time for the harvesting of the grapes to begin, but right now, the vines are so full.

This is my very pretty friend Rachel enjoy the vineyards. They provide such great views.

How beautiful are these colors?! The leaves are changing a bit right now so there is some yellow and orange around. Perfect for fall.

While I did visit many wineries I can't say that I took a lot of photos inside those wineries so you can't see any of those. Maybe next time.

I love combinations of red, white and blue. To me the colors just feel like the 4th and by extension, summer. Considering that Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer in many ways, I thought that I would pull out a red, white and blue combination to celebrate both Labor Day and summers end.

I have been seeing a lot of lovely ladies around the bloggind world showing off their pattern mixing. Marie of The Joy of Fashion and Annie of Time Enough For Drums both have some great looks with pattern mixing. Check them out!

I feel like the combination of stripes + pattern is one of the easiest ways to make a pattern mixing look. Stripes go with a lot of things and come in a variety of colors so it is easy to make great looks. I have yet to try much else in the way of pattern mixing. Some day, some day.

Jacket Weather

It is Fall! Okay, so maybe it just felt like Fall this weekend. We got some cold weather this weekend, or at least cool weather. On sunday the high was only 68 degrees! Today it didn't warm up too much so I broke out the jacket. I have this brown jacket for close to five years. I really only wear it in the fall and I take good care of it.

I really love this muted pallete on my outfit today. Grey, white blue, some black and brown. It is not a colorful summer pallete and I feel it is providing some great transition into cooler weather.

I love fall boots, too! I am unbelievably excited to break out the fall boots again.

In other news: I am busier than ever. I am doing all my homework, preparing for actual work and also getting ready for a mini family vacation during labor day weekend.

Now I am off to be a not-so-responsible student and read this book instead of reading for my homework. Hey, it is the final book in the series and I just can't wait any longer!
